apertus° AXIOM ist eine professionelle Open-Source-Filmkamera, die im Hinblick auf Langlebigkeit, Vielfältigkeit und Leistbarkeit entwickelt wurde.
apertus° ist ein gelungenes Beispiel dafür, wie mittels Crowdfunding und EU-Förderung technische Entwicklungen aus der Open-Source- und Open-Hardware-Bewegung weit über Hobbygaragen hinauskommen. Projekte wie apertus° zielen darauf ab, die Kontrolle über brancheneigene Werkzeuge zurückzugewinnen, sprich, diese unabhängig von der Marktdominanz einzelner großer Unternehmen für die AnwenderInnen adaptierbar zu machen. Möglich wird dies durch den stark modularen Aufbau der Geräte sowie durch einen dynamischen Entwicklungsprozess, der aus dem mehrjährigen Wissensaustausch von internationalen Filmschaffenden, TechnikerInnen und KünstlerInnen über das Internet resultiert. Hier ist der Name Programm: apertus bedeutet „offen“, dementsprechend steht ein „o“ anstelle des ®, dem Zeichen für registrierte Marken, hinter dem Produktnamen.

apertus° is an excellent example of how crowdfunding and EU support can help technological developments from the open source and open hardware movement go far beyond hobby garages. Projects like apertus° aim to win back control of tools of the trade, that is to say, to make them user-adaptable, independent of the market dominance of several large corporations. This is made possible by the very modular construction of the devices, as well as by a dynamic development process that was the result of years of dialogue on the Internet between international film makers, technicians, and artists. Here the name is the program: apertus means “open,” accordingly there is an “o” after the product name, instead of an ®, the sign for registered trademarks.
